The family at the center of House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon turns a succession crisis into a family problem, so names repeat and the same people may be connected in several ways. The clearest starting point is Viserys I Targaryen. His marriage to Aemma Arryn leads to Rhaenyra. His marriage to Alicent Hightower leads to Aegon II, Helaena, and Aemond in the audited core. Rhaenyra's family is shown through separate evidence-backed parent claims and union groupings. Her marriage to Laenor Velaryon groups Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey as the acknowledged family presented by screen canon. Her later marriage to Daemon groups their sons Aegon the Younger and Viserys the Younger. Daemon's earlier marriage to Laena Velaryon connects him to Baela and Rhaena. These unions help the diagram read like a family, but parent facts remain independent so uncertainty is not erased.
The Velaryon and Hightower connections
House Velaryon is not a side note in this tree. Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen are the confirmed parents of Laena and Laenor. Through those children, their family connects to Daemon, Rhaenyra, Baela, Rhaena, and the acknowledged Velaryon boys. The House filter can de-emphasize unrelated nodes while preserving the underlying paths, which is useful when the full diagram begins to feel crowded.
The Hightower branch begins with Otto Hightower and Alicent. From Alicent, the confirmed biological chain reaches Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond, Jaehaerys, and Jaehaera. The Relationship Finder can therefore calculate paths such as Otto to Jaehaerys as an ancestor path. It does not need a separate stored 'great-grandparent' fact; that label comes from the validated parent graph and stays consistent when spoiler filtering removes a protected edge.
Acknowledged, alleged, and confirmed parentage
The parentage of Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey is the most important evidence boundary in the current HOTD data. HBO's official guide identifies Rhaenyra as their mother and Laenor as their acknowledged father, while the Harwin Strong material is framed as allegation, rumor, or speculation. The site stores those distinctions instead of flattening them into a single definitive biological answer.
As a result, the children remain grouped under Rhaenyra and Laenor's marriage for presentation, but Laenor's acknowledged-parent records do not generate biological cousins or ancestors. Harwin's uncertain biological claims can be maintained and audited without entering definitive relationship results. This may produce fewer automated labels than a fan wiki, but it protects the core promise: a confirmed line means the currently audited screen evidence supports it.
Using the interactive HOTD tree
This is a relationship-first guide, not a general plot encyclopedia. The interactive tree sits before the long explanation because most visitors arrive with a practical question: find a person, see the confirmed parents or children, and understand the path to somebody else. Select any node to keep exploring inside the same tree. The character panel separates parents, children, siblings, partners, and dragon bonds so the useful answer is not buried inside a biography.
Every confirmed line in the tree comes from the site's structured screen-canon dataset. Parent claims are stored once and other labels, including sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle, cousin, ancestor, and descendant, are calculated from those claims. A marriage junction helps the diagram stay readable but does not replace the underlying parent evidence. When the supported screen material does not establish a link strongly enough, the site leaves it unconfirmed instead of completing the branch from book knowledge.
Spoiler Shield is optional and starts off. When it is enabled, progress is saved separately for Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Protected identities, parentage, unions, and status details can disappear independently. If progress is unknown, the filter fails closed: it asks for progress rather than assuming every season has been watched.
